proving once again that you don't have to spend a lot to keep kids happy. i'm adding the Staples Easy Button to my list of things that are ridiculously simple yet terribly entertaining to children. every time she pushes the button my purchase is justified. others (for older kids) include:
masking tape: let your kids entertain themselves while removing lint from the surrounding area
measuring tape: measure the table! measure your bed! measure mommy while she's taking a nap!
a box of beans: saw this at a Montessori school-kids love running the beans through their fingers. note to self: LARGE beans, easier to clean up.
