backyard bliss

yesterday evening i died and went to heaven. we began work on our backyard container garden with the kids. we decided to use reclaimed containers only, which promises to make for an "eclectic" mix of pots (and olive oil cans!) last night we planted chives, dill, stevia, broccoli, tomatoes, pansies, marigolds, mint, and verbena. here baby gets elbow deep in the best potting mix we've ever seen. last week babydaddy and i took a trip to Terrain At Styers and fell in love. after lunch in the greenhouse cafe we roamed around for an hour or so and bought bags of leaf compost, mushroom compost, and this beuatiful potting soil which is made of worm castings, coconut hulls, and rice hulls. so we got together and we had a blast yesterday getting dirt under our nails, listening to the indigo girls, and laughing. it really doesn't get any better than this.
